Pierre Kambel Mayoussa

Pierre Kambel Mayoussa is a Gabonese sculptor with over forty years of experience working with wood. Highly regarded in Gabon’s artistic circles, his work is particularly appreciated among collectors, cultural institutions, and government patrons.

Pierre is best known for his tall, almost life-sized “guerrier” (warrior) sculptures. His unique signature style combines the polished elegance of finely carved and sculpted surfaces with the raw authenticity of untouched wood. This juxtaposition highlights both the artistry and the natural spirit of the material.

For Pierre, the creative process begins with the wood itself. As he often says, “C’est le bois qui vous accompagne”, “It is the wood that guides you.” Each piece evolves organically, shaped by the form, character, and energy of the wood he works with.

His sculptures embody strength, tradition, and the deep connection between artist and material, making each creation not only an artwork but also a cultural testimony.
